Friday Night Anime Block: Code Geass

There is absolutely nothing I crave more when laid up on the couch with a bout of seasonal allergies, a cold, a hangover, or day gone horribly rancid, than anime. Throughout my life I’ve carried it with me as comfort food for the soul. I think there’s something innate in such a highly stylized genre and presentation; it becomes compelling in its affirmation of itself. Or it could be that I’m just hung up on animation, this too is entirely possible. Sadly, Google search results for things like ‘dystopian anime’ are shoddy at best and incoherent at worst. I’m hardly well versed in the medium, but I know what I like. Luckily, some friends have provided me with some excellent recommendations lately that I thought should be passed along. So compiled here are the first four episodes of Code Geass, a mildly faustian tale of a world in which the Britannian Empire has conquered Japan. Socio-economic upheaval meets political maneuvering set in a noir future backdrop of military mech and pretty much unexplained super human abilities. Enjoy!

Sorry, couldn’t find proper English subbed (as it really should be watched) versions, bear with me though…

Perfect 3am comedown from a late-night gaming session…
