Friday Night Anime Block: Last Exile

Ahh, now what would be a decent Dystopia with a wee bit of Steampunk? Sure, cryogenics and giant mech suits are lovely, but can they really top the aerial escapades of overly chivalrous musket-wielding pseudo-Brits on massive floating cannon platforms (with ill-defined technical specifications, I might add.)? I think not. Tonight, lizards and squabs, we have for you Koichi Chigira‘s Last Exile (the same group that also brought us the inimitable Blue Sub no. 6). A true feast for the eyes, and one series that I am pleased to say does not contain an entirely massive-sucking-headwound of an opening theme song.
I recall first viewing this after a bout with the human curse that is wisdom teeth. Pharmaceutical hypnagogia is recommended for any anime screening exceeding the minimum 2 hour period. You’ll absorb it more effectively that way.
A bit like dirigibles would have been if we hadn’t given up on them. Imagine the endless bounty of a perpetually floating economy in the sky. I, for one, have lost all respect for Jet Blue. They’ve robbed us of our dreams.

Hey! I’ve actually seen this one and it’s Not That Bad. I like the flivver-planes and how The Good Guys work for Trent Reznor. I don’t like how every single female in the known world wants to -how you say- ride Claus’s vanship.
I thought you might like it; its from some of the same production team that did Porco Rosso.
