Coco Before Chanel (with Audrey Tautou) —– Playing Now!
This is playing in select cities in the US right now. I am a bit jealous of NY and LA due to the fact that they get to preview such films before the rest of us do! I suppose one would just have to travel to see such art. I am a huge fan of Audrey Tautou. She has acted in some amazing films over the last decade. Most know her from Amélie. Even her recent commercial for the Chanel perfume is great!
OPENING: This Friday! (10/9/09)
(all these flipping dramas and so called comedies…sigh.)
Couples Retreat (PG-13)—-This follows four Midwestern couples (first problem) who take a journey (second problem, travel with spouse is never easy and bound to have issues) to a tropical island resort. Three of the couples are only there to have fun while one is there to “work on their relationship” (third problem: tell me why you would take friends with you to “work on your relationship”? ). Filled with humor of the relationship type for both sexes, this movie will prove to be funny at times and just a head shaker at others. Both sexes will leave the theater thinking about their own issues and then ‘the talks’ will happen later that night in bed, when all you want to do is sleep. (eh, could be amusing but prolly not.)
The Damned United (R)—-A Docudrama, this is the story of Brian Clough, football manager (soccer, for you American folks). In this movie, he tends to alienate those around him and come off as abrasive but talented. When he has the chance to coach Leeds United, Don Revie’s former team (and his rival), he takes on the role of the manager of the best soccer team in England. (ummm, well, this one is your call…but not my cup o’tea)
An Education (PG-13)—-Another drama about a girl that is young and talented. She has a promising future until she meets an older man. She decides she can learn more with him then at Oxford. (sigh, this sound drab and boring.)
Fame (PG)—-coughremakecough…of original 1980 musical movie.
Free Style (PG)—-Corbin Bleu of High School Musical gives it his all to be on the Grand National motocross racing team. His family and girlfriend show their support and happiness for him. This is definitely a family movie. It will have all the corny little moments that will tug at your heart and make you think anything is possible; if only you can live in the movies. (I do not recommend but hey, that’s just me!)
Good Hair (PG-13)—-Chris Rock does an educational movie…in a witty documentary with serious undertones. Rock says he was inspired to make the film when his young daughter asked him, “Daddy, how come I don’t have good hair?” and he and filmmaker Jeff Stilson examine black America’s obsession with their hair. (well, at least they get points for originality.)
Adventures of Power (PG-13)—-This one is Napoleon Dynamite with air drumming skills! A guy wants to learn to play the drums so he takes of air drumming and goes on to join a team, who compete in what reminds me of Revenge of the Nerds! Okay, so some parts seem stupid but other parts had me chuckling. (if you liked ND, then you would like this one too!)
Enjoy!
