You can’t be Catholic and Pro-Abortion. Wait, what?

Rep. Patrick Kennedy asked not to participate in the Sacrament of the Eucharist…article on CNN.

I think I just need to stop reading the news for awhile. I saw this sign as part of an article on CNN this morning, I read it thinking to myself, “umm, what?”  I knew I would regret clicking on the story because it would just infuriate me and give me that sour taste of disgust for the Catholic church, AH-gain.  I don’t think ANYONE in their right mind is Pro-Abortion.  Is this what Pro-Choicers are being called today by antagonistic Pro-Lifers?  Or is this sign simply what it reads?

If the sign read, “You can’t be Catholic & Pro-Choice” I’d be steaming with the fiery-red hot poker type anger that makes me hate haters (think about that one).  This sign sends a mixed message and honestly, doesn’t stand for anything other than, Catholics are not Pro-Abortion, umm, well yea, duh, you tard, most people are not Pro-Abortion.  But I think I am taking the sign a bit more seriously than just it’s simple words.  I am reading into it and feel as though I, myself being a Catholic and a Pro-Choicer am being called a Pro-Abortionist because I am pro-choice.

And since when did religious organizations start to feel it was their obligation and/or right to get involved in political issues such as same-sex marriage and the health care reform?  Seriously, this is getting out of hand and something or someone needs to put the hammer down.  Separation of religion and state.  Have we gotten so past the moral fabric code of the Constitution that we are no longer think people should have freedom or is it only “okay” if well, “okay that doesn’t go against the Doctrine so we’ll not fight that law”?

Honestly, I can not believe that anyone can tell you who or what you are.  You know what you are and that is all that matters.  The fact that that Bishop Tobin asked Rep. Patrick Kennedy to not participate in holy communion because of his stance on abortion is utterly bizarre to me.  Pope John Paul II never denied anyone the Eucharist based on their political beliefs.  Is this Bishop Tobin more holy and Catholic than Pope John Paul II was?  I just think that the bishop is pissed that Kennedy publicly criticized the Catholic Church for opposing the health care reform bill that lacked anti-abortion language.  So the bishop is lashing out at Kennedy the best way he knows how…let’s take away his right to a Sacrament of Christ.

Simply stated that, “when our bodies partake of the Eucharist, they are no longer corruptible as they have the hope of eternal resurrection” (St. Irenaeus, Against the Heresies, IV, 18,5)

If only religion was not so political.   /sigh
