Weird Wednesday: Street of Crocodiles

Second in a series of Kafka-esque animated posts, I humbly announce The Brother’s Quay and their film Street of Crocodiles. This film was based on the short story by the author Bruno Schulz. “This short film was selected by director and animator Terry Gilliam as one of the ten best animated films of all time…” If that’s not a compliment I don’t know what is.

Unfortunately much of the detail is lost in the YouTube videos. I saw this movie during a film festival in the early nineties. Seeing this on a larger screen really allows you to experience it so much more. David Lynch is right you can’t really watch a movie on your f**king phone. I think this follows suit. I hope you enjoyed it regardless, I did.

  1. These must have been incredible on the big screen! Do you know if there’s a collection out of their works?

  2. I had my first experience of the The Brothers Quay when I watched the “Prison Sex” video on MTV when MTV actually played music. I was fascinated by the stop-motion animation and the dark essence it brought to life.

There is a collection of 10 of their short films….

We should have a get together. It’s already in my cue.
