Weekend Entertainment: New Movies

Recent Eureka Releases:  By Director F.W. Murnau (genius)

Nosferatu            Tabu

If you are the blockbuster box office sort then here is a quick run down of what’s coming out today in most major theaters: http://hollywood.com

“27 Dresses”:Katherine Heigl must re-examine her “always a bridesmaid” life when her sister becomes engaged to the man of her dreams.  (IMHO: crap with a hot chick, next.)

“Cloverfield”: A group of friends document their attempt to survive when a monster the size of a skyscraper descends into NYC.  (IMHO: worth a peek after the hysteria is over.)

“Mad Money”: Katie Holmes (AKA – Tom Cruise’s minion), Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton are unlikely friends who plan to rob one of the most secure banks in the world. (IMHO: I’m sorry did Tom tell you to do it?)

In the Not so major theaters:

“Cassandra’s Dream”:Ewan MacGregor and Colin Farrell (tasty) are down-on-their-luck brothers who gradually become entangled in crime with disastrous results.  (IMHO: Sounds cliche’ and could be interesting in a drunken state of consciousness.)

“Taxi to the Dark Side”: A documentary examining the death of an innocent Afghan taxi driver at Bagram Air Base from injuries inflicted by U.S. soldiers.  (IMHO: Documentaries tend to hold my interest but a netflixer for sure on this one.)

“Teeth”: A high school student discovers she has a bizarre “physical advantage” when she becomes the object of male violence.  (IMHO: This could be another sex-driven teen girl who seems to lose half her clothing running from a killer…or it could stimulate the bizarre senses, i’ll pass for now thank you.)

This year’s looks to be promising!  Lots of exquisit muse on the chopping block for your indie viewing pleasure!

Check out the list of premiering shorts at:  http://www.indiewire.com/movies/2008/01/shorts_column_p_1.html

Kirsten Dunst’s “Welcome” has got my attention.  She’s cast Winona Rider, who has this sexually erotic yet disturbed appeal about her.  She is entertaining at times to watch.

Enjoy!

  1. LOL! I’m sure it’s a huge male thing, but I’m very excited by “Teeth”. Vagina Dentata is something that has been instilled in me since I was a young boy. I’m sure having a gay dad is a major part of that. I have a huge teeth complex/fetish anyone who has seen my teeth drawings would know this. I’m sure this is going to be a schlock teen borderline B movie, but that never stopped me in the past.

  2. I must admit to being pretty excited about Cloverfield as well. I feel like I should spend the money to see it just to reward them for the marketing campaign they ran. Plus the reviews are pretty good so far. Link to the Wired rev:
