Because over-the-top is often not enough

Neko and I recently watched the awesomely gory Machine Girl and absolutely loved it. Needless to say this may not be everyone’s cup of sake, but if you’re like us and prefer a steady diet of schlock horror, anime, bizarrely premised sci-fi, Asian cinema, and buckets of gore then I would fully expect you’d have the same response. I mean c’mon, a Drill Bra? What’s not to love?

Then of course come to find out that the same production company, Fever Dreams is working on what would appear to be an even more (yes, more) extreme offering; Tokyo Gore Police. Really, the trailer pretty much sums it up:

This is definitely going to require a beer or two, and something involving way too much hot sauce. I can’t wait.

Wacking Wax Hitler

You wonder if the summer heat has gone to people’s head or if this man was pining over the Hitler wax figure until the completion of the museum.

…it’s nice to be back to the land of broadband…Gestalt and I were chatting the other day and he thought I should mention the beheading of Hilter.  I agreed! So mote it be…

On Saturday 7/5/08, the first day the Berlin Madame Tussauds wax museum opened, a Berlin man pushed aside two museum employees to attack the wax Hitler figure.  He managed to rip off its head while shouting, “No more war!” He was only the second person to enter the museum after its doors had opened.

Madame Tussauds made a statement that they would repair the wax figure of Adolf Hitler that the man decapitated at its new Berlin branch and return it to the museum, “As quickly as possible.”

The man was detained for his conduct.  He told police officers he wanted to protest the figure being included into the wax museum.  The was figure had been under scrutiny since the German media learned of its placement in the museum.

Pictured above is what the Hilter wax figured looked like before its execution on Saturday.  There had been some controversy surrounding the wax figure going into the Germany museum.  However, the museum’s advocates quarreled Hitler’s role in German history must not be ignored. As agonizing and atrocious as that part of history might be, it is still part of the past.

Dowzing in the midst of summer heat

To celebrate mine and Neko’s return to the land of the intertubes, I bring you:

acceleration chamber

The Kage Roi Idea Acceleration Chamber. (and no, this is not a Star Trek prop).

An IT company in Japan called Kayac working in conjunction with researchers of a notable Japanese university, have developed this mock up of a room designed specifically for the stimulation of the mind’s own tendency to free associate. In essence, a room that monitors keywords spoken aloud and automatically trawls the web looking for associated data and imagery, which it then feeds back to the room’s inhabitants in an ongoing cycle of revision and adaptation.

Now, while the company is planning on marketing this to content creation companies to aid in brainstorming sessions, I for one find the underlying principle behind what they’re developing a source of pure fascination. Think for a moment…if we assume the cloud as we’ve come to experience it represents a vast source of human data (and it does, Wired recently did an article on the Death of the Scientific theory in light of the sheer amount of data now available. Check it out, it’s worth reading.) what we’re really lacking is an interface that allows us to move associatively through that data. That’s what’s so fascinating about this; it’s a manner in which we may engage humanly with this vast compendium of living data. BOL was predicated on the belief that the human mind, unleashed from the constraints of daily consciousness, was capable of the most amazing and beautiful (and possibly zombified) creations. It occurs to me that as our overall level of technology matures, we will necessarily develop tools such as this to enable us to interact with it in the most natural manner possible. And what could be more natural than our own mind’s tendency to wander?

There is a Cure for the Summertime Blues!

A little summertime medicinal tonic I discovered from my roommate.

1 part Bärenjager

2 part Svedka Clementine Vodka

with a splash of seltzer

Ceres Pomegranate and Lime Juice

While this delightful concoction might be considered too fruity by the scotch, whiskey, and musk crowd after a long day of sweating in the kitchen I have found this to be dangerously refreshing.

Cheers!!!
