Winter Song

I was surfing the interwebs and stumbled upon this video that is fairly new from Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson. As a side note: I am finding that I like Ingrid’s music the more I listen to her.

So, I thought the song was cute and catchy but loved the video and felt it should be shared.  It gave me a warming feeling and had me smiling, it’s been a while since a music video has done that for me without involving flesh-eating zombies.  Pay attention to the piano in the song and feel how it reaches out while the cello pulls you back.  (I have a thing about strings.)

Something to warm the heart on a cold, blistery winter day…

R.I.P Bettie Page

1923 – 12/11/2008

Its enough to make one want to throw over the covers and hide your head under the pillow.

Bye Bye Bettie from Coilhouse puts it in a great deal more perspective than I can today. She will be missed, and forever remembered.

Send in the Clowns

Neko and I took a walk yesterday in the first snowfall the city has seen this year. There was the obligatory snow throwing, and a couple of pirouettes, and a generally wonderful time was had by all. Me being me, it’s also a perfect opportunity for nostalgia and it got me thinking about the last time I’d enjoyed a winter so much. A couple years ago Gestalt turned me on to Monkey Dust during my stay with him further up the coast, and the experience completely flavored that entire year for me. I can no longer see a snowfall without the near-irresistible urge to break out in a British accent and speculate about what the the Church of England really needs to turn their image around. Below is yet more goodness from one of my personal favorite story arcs: Daddy and Timmy

There’s really too many insanely brilliant bits to do justice to in a single post. Suffice it to say that dark humor has never seemed so strangely comforting, especially after a good snowy walk down brick paved streets before the first cup of coffee.

I may just have to make this a yearly Holiday thing…

Chad VanGaalen – Molten Light

Amazing song and artwork by Chad VanGaalen. Very inspiring. I can’t get this song out of my head. It feels like a marriage between Iron and Wine and Daniel Johnston.

Hmmm. This could be useful…

Setting aside any considerations of the horsepower needed to adequately chew through bone, cartilage, etc. I must say that this looks pretty tempting. We’re seeing a demonstration of an small arm size chainsaw affixed a la bayonet mounted the barrel of an assault rifle. Pretty much the last gory word (moan?) in up close and personal zombie defense. I can’t help but wonder though, the weight must throw off your rifle targeting? I’ve always been a fan of well wielded scythes and a decent truncheon personally. As far as brain-destroying weapons go, are we really sure we want this on youtube?
